PARK HILL ELEMENTARY TO HOST INTERNATIONAL ARTS FEST
May 17, 2000
Students at the Park Hill International Studies celebrate the world and its diversity with the Ninth Annual International Arts Festival Friday, May 19, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Every student has spent the year studying a specific country and its culture and will share an aspect of that culture with the community through visual art, dance, music and native cuisine. Chinese calligraphy and brush painting, Suriname quilting, Vietnamese dragon masks, Ethiopian carved stone, bull fighting dioramas, weaving from Turkey, African tie-dye, a Nigerian wall mural and Australian didgeridoos are just some of the art to be exhibited.
Music will blend the sounds of the world together and Mexican, African, Vietnamese and Arctic dances will be performed. Fifth graders will perform Shakespeare in the "Globe 'O the Garden" amphitheater and will make dishes representative of their country's cuisine for the Taste of Culture potluck.
All performances are free. There is a nominal fee to indulge in the potluck. Funding for the festival is provided by Janus Funds and other private donors, student fundraisers and after-school enrichment classes.
Park Hill Elementary School is located at 5050 E. 19th Ave. For more information call Kelly Pierson, Arts Festival chair, at 303-377-1174.
