http://www.arts-online.com

Arts-Online is an ambitious attempt to bring together artists of all genres -- visual arts, music, dance, theater, fashion, film -- and create a venue for publicizing and promoting their work. Massachusetts-based and with a definite New England bias, Millennium Productions' Arts Online boasts a long list of artists and art-related companies looking for exposure on the Net. The site gives small bands a place to create a home page, galleries a place to show their works, and everyone a place to make themselves known.
Some of the sections were sparse, but the music and visual arts sections had plenty of activity. Visitors also have a chance to add their own favorite links and ask questions in an online discussion forum.

Classroom Connect: How to Cite Internet Resources
http://www.classroom.net/classroom/CitingNetResources.html

A how-to guide for referencing online sources in student bibliographies. Just as students need to cite the books and periodicals they use to support their research, so too must they cite online sources of information. This is a comprehensive, easy-to-understand method for citing online information in student bibliographies. It was revised in August of 1997 to include methods of making it easy for teachers to check the veracity of every online source their students cite. Since formal guidelines for citing online sources are beginning to evolve, the willingness of this site to revise is important. Note: The latest MLA Handbook contains citation information for electronic sources, but may have been out of date as soon as it was published.
Topics include: Electronic Mail (Email); Gopher; Telnet; World Wide Web (WWW); Usenet Newsgroups; Internet Relay Chat (IRC); Online images; Online sounds; and Online video clips.
The site also includes new information specifying how to cite the graphics, sounds, and video clips students retrieve from the Net for use in their multimedia presentations. Additionally, the site includes links to Web sites about citations

Fine Art Forum Resource Directory
http://www.msstate.edu/Fineart_Online/art-resources/

Serving as a "resource and jumping-off place for people interested in art, and in the possible relationships between art and technology," this massive directory is maintained by Jeliza Patterson, a Masters candidate in art history at Tufts University. Patterson points browsers to advocate organizations like the American Council or the Arts (where activists can learn about current legislation for arts funding), and DIA Center for the Arts, a multi-disciplinary organization based in New York City. Links to wordwide festivals and exhibitions include the 2nd Annual South by Southwest Multimedia Festival and The 12-Hour-ISBN-JPEG Project, a "round-the-clock posting of sequenced, postmodern photographs." The pile of links to museums, galleries, artists, and journals should keep historians and
enthusiasts enthralled for hours.

GenScope
http://copernicus.bbn.com/genscope/index.html

This Web site is part of a project sponsored by the National Science Foundation that is developing educational software for teaching biology -- the GenScope project.
This site is useful as a tool for locating resources related to biology, including examples of software, images and other medical and biological Web servers.
GenScope introduces a hypermodel that uses the computer to bridge the gap between a model and the physical world. Free software is downloadable to allow teachers to participate in the project. The project is interactive.
GenScope links six distinct levels of biological organization: The DNA Level; The Cell Level; The Chromosome Level; The Organism Level; The pedigree level, and The Population Level. Thus, the program can be used to teach a wide variety of topics (e.g., molecular biology, cellular biology, evolution) making it possible for students to explore and understand the deep connections among these very different domains.
GenScope touts it contains accurate and up-to-date scientific content, creates new technology that will help kids to learn the content, and designs and evaluates innovative pedagogical approaches that make effective use of the technology with a broad range of students.

UC Museum of Paleontology Public Exhibits
http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/exhibit/exhibits.html

The University of California Museum of Paleontology Homepage.
Many people think paleontology is the study of fossils. In fact, paleontology is much more. Paleontology incorporates many different kinds of data from different fields. The site provide three different areas to start your exploration of paleontology: Phylogeny -- the "family tree" of life; Geological Time -- the temporal existence of groups of organisms; Evolutionary Thought -- evolutionary topics and scientists in their historical context. The site includes exhibits on organisms or geological time periods, allowing you to simply look up more information on a topic.
The Evolutionary Thought link provides information not only on Darwin, but of all of the history of evolutionary thought. Topics include: Founders of Natural Science: From Ancient Times to the Enlightenment; Aristotle (384-322 B.C.E.); Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519); Georgius Agricola (1494-1555); John Ray (1628-1705); Antony van Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723); Robert Hooke (1635-1703); Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon (1707-1788); Carolus Linnaeus (1707-1778); Erasmus Darwin (1731-1802); William Paley (1743-1805); Preludes to Evolution; Jean-Baptiste Lamarck (1744-1829); Thomas Malthus; (1766-1834); Georges Cuvier (1769-1832); William Smith (1769-1839); Geoffroy St. Hilaire (1772-1844); Adam Sedgwick (1785-1873); Patrick Matthew (1790-1874); Mary Anning (1799-1847); Sir Richard Owen (1804-1892); Louis Agassiz (1807-1873); Natural Selection and Beyond; Thomas Henry Huxley (1824-1895); Ernst Haeckel (1834-1919); Edward Drinker Cope (1840-1897); Henry Fairfield Osborn (1857-1935); Alfred Wegener (1880-1930).
