My memories of DPS schools, date to the fifties. My family cameÊto Denver in 1952 with my Dad having served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed at Lowry and I attended Teller Elementary while most of the neighbor kids went to Montclair. I really enjoyed my time at Teller where Mrs. NoreÊ(or Noar)Êwas Principal and her assistant was Miss Fink. I was in the Band and one of my favorite teachers was Mrs. Baldridge. For 7th gradeÊI was bussed to Morey where Miss Shea was a favorite and 8th and 9th grades were spent at Merrill with some really fine teachersÊ- Mr. Ginn was Principal. My High School years were spent at South, graduating in 1960 and moving just across I-25 to DU for my Bachelors and Masters majoring in Botany and working for the Federal Govt. for 35 years until my retirement in 2000. My interest in Botany was started by Mr. Warren at South High. I currently have a dear friend, Virginia Belknap, who was Principal at Phillips Elementary for 20 years starting with the school’s opening in 1952. Virginia will soon be 90 and still lives in her own home in southeast Denver. IÊstudent taught at Phillips in 1962.
I have enjoyed the opportunity of recalling my DPS days having seen the request for reminiscences in the Denver Post.
