Memories of Denver Public School

I was a student at Columbine Elementary School at 41st and Federal from 1944-1950. I have a surprising number or memories of grade school there. The most outstanding is and always has been singing on the circular staircase at Christmas time. The last day of school before Christmas break we would all gather on that beautiful old staircase, sit on the stairs, and be led in Christmas songs by (I think) Mrs. Norton the music teacher. If I am incorrect on the name and you know the correct one I would appreciate knowing it. It is a memory I now pass on to my Grandchildren who are not allowed to sing “Christmas” songs in school at all. A great deal has changed but this memory has remained strong for me.

I also remember teachers named Miss. Lord and (oh my gosh! I had the 3rd grade teacher’s name until just this minute and now I can not think of it! Ah, life in the older lane.) Oh there it is! I think it was Mrs. Ferral. Well, that is enough brain strain for now.
