Memories of Denver Public School

My Name is James B Bailey II and have been part of DPS all my life. I have worked with DPS now for 21 years. I went to George Washington High School and Graduated in (1975). My Father worked for the schools for 38 years himself. Both parents went to South High School and graduated in 1949. My mom taught elementary for 20 years. She taught at Washington Park and University Park Elementary School. My Mom's Mom also went to South High School. So with both grandparents growing up in Denver we figured out that our family members have been roaming the halls of Denver Public School now for 85 years of the 100 years of the Denver Schools being around. My father was invited to celebrate the 100th anniversary by the Superintendent Jerry Wartgow. My father also was a Superintendent for DPS himself. It gets better. His Mom grew up at 7 Fox street in Denver and went to Elmwood Elementary which was replace by Del Pueblo Elementary. This picture is her second grade class in 1899 in front of Elmwood. Notice a few of kids don't even have shoes on. She went to West Side High School and graduated from there in 1909. My Grandma Taught over at West a couple of years after she graduated from Colorado College in 1913.
